Introduction The Society for EAST SEA

Welcome to The Society for East Sea website.
I sincerely appreciate your continued concern and support for the activities of the Society for East Sea.
The Society for East Sea was established with the aim of conducting activities to ensure that our name "East Sea(“Donghae” in Korean)" for the sea between the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese archipelago is respected and used by the international community.

'East Sea' is a name that has been used for over 2,000 years in our history. However, since Sea of Japan was adopted in 1929, when the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) published international standard data on sea names and boundaries, the East Sea has been forgotten by the international community. Since joining the United Nations in 1991, the Korean government has persuaded the international community to write the East Sea, or East Sea, together with Sea of Japan, and has achieved meaningful results. The Society for East Sea was established in 1994 in its early days and is working in the field of experts to bring the East Sea to life in the international community.

The Society for East Sea has held an annual international seminar on sea names since 1995, the year after its establishment, thanks to the dedication of the former chairman and other researchers. This seminar went beyond persuading foreign experts about the legitimacy of the East Sea name, and developed into an opportunity to think about practical ways to solve this issue with them. In addition, we are contributing to academic and realistic research by discussing general principles and examples of sea names and dispute names. It is a valuable reward for the increase in the number of East Sea weapons in maps, textbooks, government documents, and media published in countries around the world, as the Society for East Sea participated in the national effort to spread the name of the East Sea.

The Society for East Sea will continue to do its duty to ensure that the East Sea joint uses are settled in the international community. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to domestic and foreign institutions, experts, and directors of the Society for East Sean for sponsoring the activities of the Society for East Sea. We ask for your support for the East Sea joint use and the efforts of the Society for East Sea.
